Rising to the challenge

Two European contractors are putting the Hitachi EX1200-7 to work in demanding environments, from underwater excavation in Germany to heavy-duty quarry operations in France. Both companies highlight their machine’s productivity, durability, and efficiency, proving why the EX1200-7 is trusted for complex projects.

Underwater excellence in Germany The largest excavator delivered by Hitachi Construction Machinery Netherlands last year, the EX1200-7, is fully customised to meet Dieker Overslag’s operational needs. With an extended 30 m boom, 900 mm wide tracks, and a Pladdet chain bucket, the machine excels in underwater excavation, moving more than 100,000 tonnes of sand so far on a German project.

“Thanks to the modifications, such as the AMC automatic lubrication system, the EX1200-7 is perfectly tailored to our operations. It’s not only powerful but incredibly efficient.”

Rick Dieker, Director

The EX1200-7 was transported in sections and assembled on site, immediately demonstrating stability and power even under challenging conditions. Dieker Overslag, a family-run business specialising in transshipment and dredging, continues to innovate with a focus on sustainable and efficient operations.

Quarry performance in France At SMBP’s Viabon quarry, the EX1200-7 has proved vital to operations. Fitted with a 6,000-litre bucket and a nine-tonne steel breaker ball, it efficiently handles oversized rock, loading 40-tonne dump trucks and supporting production of 1.5 million tonnes of aggregates annually.

“Hitachi excavators are very robust. Fuel consumption of around 85 litres per hour and attractive pricing were decisive factors in choosing the EX1200-7.”

Franck Evanno, Deputy Managing Director

Operator Vincent Deneuve also praises the machine. He appreciates the smooth deceleration, wide access walkway, and enhanced visibility, enabling safe and precise handling of heavy materials.

With remote monitoring via Hitachi’s Global e-Service, the EX1200-7 is maintained efficiently, and SMBP is already considering adding a second unit for future operations.

“The machine’s design, power, and reliability make it ideal for our quarry work, and it has already proven its worth on site.”
