Electric excavators impress in Stockholm
Two ZX85US-6EB electric excavators deliver the same performance as diesel alternatives but are quieter and produce zero emissions.
Flexible working
On a cable-laying project in the Karlaplan neighbourhood of Stockholm, Sweden, these medium-sized excavators can be powered by both mains cable and battery.
For this project they are charged overnight to be ready for a full working day. “It works well – it’s more about planning than limitations,” says operator Niklas Bengston. “And when the machine is stationary it doesn’t draw any energy at all, unlike an idling diesel engine.”
In addition, the ZX85US-6EB has fewer maintenance requirements and needs less downtime than conventional diesel models.
Perfect for urban projects
The excavators are being used in a project undertaken by electricity contractor Craftor and its subsidiary, Sunaru. They have been hired through Rental Group, which regularly collaborates with Swedish Hitachi dealer, Delvator.
There’s a growing demand for electric machines as Rental Group’s Per Eriksson explains. “We get enquiries all the time. Here we can clearly see what they can do – they’re perfect for an urban environment. It’s no longer a question of whether electric excavators work – but when they will become standard.”
